Kite II
Linear stock steel, sheet metal, wire, Teensy, driver, concrete, electronics, kite sounds
78 × 24 × 96 in.
I forged two steel red maple leaves and suspended them from a small speaker with hair-thin copper wire so that they rested on the ground. I flew a kite with a microphone attached and recorded the sound of it in the air. That recording is later played through a Teensy board and a speaker driver suspended from forged steel branches. The vibration from the speaker travels through the wire into the steel leaves, causing them to tremble and slowly move toward one another.
